Happiness: Does anybody actually enjoy life?

Are these people being honest? Are there actually people who enjoy life? Or am I the only one who secretly believes that life is overrated?

Happiness is a matter of choice.
You can be happy even in a situation which most people consider unacceptable.
You can be unhappy even in a situation which most people consider desirable.
Please see the children in the following picture who are so happy though they are quite poor and living in slums.
It is not only the children, but even adults can be happy in their home, if they are able to appreciate their blessings.
These poor people are happy because they don’t believe that they have to be a great achiever to become happy.
On the other side, you can be extremely unhappy even when living in a palatial house with huge amount of wealth, power and luxuries. It is so because they have been conditioned to believe that they must never be happy and contented else they would lose the desire of achievements.
They believe that the worldly achievements are more important than personal happiness.
Our happiness comes from within and largely depends on our expectations from the self and from the world.
  • When you expect too much from you, you are mostly unhappy because you fail to fulfill them
  • Even when you meet your expectations, you raise the bar rather than enjoying your achievement
  • When you expect too much from others, you are mostly unhappy because others fail to live up to your expectations
  • Even when some people come near your expectations, you rather are unhappy that others fail to meet your expectations
Most people are unhappy in the world because they have learned from their childhood that they have to be the best and on the top of the world.
Since everyone can’t be the best and no one can be best in all areas of life, everyone who link happiness with performance can never be happy for long.
Only when you learn to be happy being yourself and satisfied with ‘what you are’, ‘what other people are’ and ‘what the world is’, you can enjoy happiness in life.
You have to develop the faith that it is possible to be happy in this world even without being a great achiever.
The moment you develop this faith, you can find countless number of people around you who are genuinely happy.

We are living in a complex world.
The most complex of all complexes is ‘inferiority’ complex.
This inferiority complex is developed because most people are unsuccessful in their life by their own yardsticks. For example,
  • Around 500,000 candidates appear for Civil Services Examination in India everywhere while only 1000 succeeds within it merely 180 odd people could become IAS which they actually aspire.
  • More than a million candidates aspire for merely few thousand of seats in IITs
  • Millions of people start new companies every year and only a few succeed
  • Millions of people write books every year, but only a few succeed
The story is same all over as the number of failed people are much more than the successful people.
The unsuccessful people would like to believe that those who are successful actually are no better than themselves to make them feel better. Hence they create illusions like-
  • Wealth is the root of all evil
  • Successful people are lonely
  • Successful people are unhappy
  • Successful people don’t have good family life
  • Successful people are more scared of failures in life
They discuss such issues among the other unsuccessful people and they all agree to such false assumptions unanimously.
The fact is just the opposite
  • Poverty is the biggest evil in the world
  • Successful people are quite sought after by other people
  • Successful people are much happier
  • Successful people have much better family life
  • Successful people are much more secure
It is for these benefits that all of us wish to be successful in life and work so hard for success.
If being unsuccessful would have been better, you can become so effortlessly anywhere anytime.
There may be a few exceptions even within the successful people who are lonely, unhappy, bad family life or insecure. However, exceptions never prove the rule.
If you wish to be successful in life, see the positive side of the successful people.
Only if you are successful in getting what you aspire, you can discover happiness and joy in your life.
