Bengal has always been a part of Indians’ heart especially because of its rich religious places and spiritual figures who have made bigger impacts throughout the country to inspire love, religion and spirituality among the common mass.
Today, we present to you how Bengal breathes religious air in every stroke and what makes this land pure and apt for spiritual aspirations.

Great Souls From Bengal-

Swami Vivekananda-Sri Ramakhrishna- Maa Sharadha – This trio is well known to every individual in India across all religious people. The inspiring figure of Vivekananda, The simplicity of Ramakrishna and The motherly love of Sharadha are the talks of the state at any moment. Now we come to some lesser known yet impactful great souls –
  1. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu – A very famous religious figure in Bengal. Ever tourists from many places visit His holy ground in Nabadwip which is close to Mayapur where ISKCON temple is there. He left behind an example of achieving God by Bhakti Yoga, by worship and chanting name of Lord Krishna. He was a great scholar and took sanyas at a very early age.He travelled throughout the length of the country spreading name and value of Hare Krishna.He spent many years in Puri, Oddisha in Jagannath temple. A few of his teachings are Krishna is the Supreme Absolute Truth and Pure love of Krishna is the ultimate goal. His popular gesture as a means of Bhakti during Kirtan have attracted millions of followers and made him a household name everywhere. He is considered to be an Avatar of Lord Krishna.

  2. Lokenath Bramhachariya – This great soul lived nearly 150 years which may surprise many scientific people. He took Mahasamadhi in presence of his followers, as he correctly predicted the date and time of it. His teachings and promises attract millions of followers. Kachuya Dham which is supposed to be his birthplace is attended by many tourists and followers every day. His promises include “Whenever in danger, remember me, I shall save you”, “I can do whatever I like, it is only your lack of trust, that keeps your desire unfulfilled”, “No power can damage the devotees who take shelter under me, for no power is greater than me to punish you”,”you may not know me, you may not realize who I am, just pray to me with a little touch of your heart, and I shall free you from your gripping sorrows and miseries”.   1. Sri Sri Thakur AnukulchandraHe was a guru and the founder of Satsang Ashram in Deoghar,Jharkhand. The early signs of making a great soul were there especially when he used to go to trance during kirtan like Ramakrishna. From his childhood, he has devotion towards religious scriptures and considered his mother as his guru. He was a medical practitioner. Millions of people take initiates from his disciplines and have several temples everywhere in Bengal. His famous propaganda of Satsang has gained major popularity.

  2. Lahiri Mahasaya- A very popular yogi, he was a discipline of Mahavatar Babaji. He brought back the lost faith in Kriya Yoga in Indian people.Another great soul – Paramahansa Yogananda‘s Autobiography of a Yogi spread his name and he used to give initiation of Kriya to people of all religions. It is said that he initiated Sai Baba Of Shirdi.Lahiri himself had printed thousands of small books with excerpted passages from the Gita, in Bengali and Hindi, and distributed them for free. He said “Always remember that you belong to no one, and no one belongs to you. Reflect that someday you will suddenly have to leave everything in this world–so make the acquaintanceship of God now.”
