Chakras are energy centers through which cosmic energy enter in our body. In scientific terms, they are the major nerve endings, activation of which can give rise to several high esteemed potentials. Previously, they were considered to be baseless fiction, now with the advancement of science, their existence has been proven and their qualities are disclosed after several experiments. Some people can still be skeptical, for them all we wanted to say is Science has not been able to explain what mind is. It is very subtle, as subtle as the chakras- that reside along the central breath channel. Just because we can see anything with naked eyes, does not mean they don’t exist. So sometimes you have to take that leap of faith as sometimes you have to run before you can walk.
Basically there are seven major nerve endings or chakras in our body which helps in spiritual awakening and betterment of physical self. Every chakra has its colour, mantra, qualities,deity, a specific lotus and symbol.Muladhara-
Mula means root while Dhara means foundation. So it is the starting point in the path of spiritual journey. It is present at the base of the spinal cord in the coccygeal region. Kundalini Shakti, the power that every spiritual being seeks, which on attaining leads to self-realization, has its base in the Muladhara. It is said to be the place where our fruits of past life reside.
Colour- Red representing vitality
Mantra- Lam
Qualities- It is the start of the journey from unconscious state to conscious state. It is the border life between material and spiritual life. It is the center of positivism, creativity, and awakening of hidden talents. Physically it is responsible for sexuality, mentally it brings stability
Lotus- 4 petals.
Symbol- Grey Shiva Linga signifying the unconscious state, A Snake representing the Kundalini Shakti and An Inverted Triangle to represent creativity.
Deity – Ganesh
Related Glands- Gonads and Adrenal medulla.
Svadhishthana-
Sva means self while Adhishthana means residence.It is located 3 cms above Muladhara between the coccyn and the sacrum. It is the place where we can purify our past karmas and smoothens our way to spiritual attainment. Subconsciousness is prevalent here.
Colour- Orange signifying fire, energy and activity.
Mantra- Vam
Qualities- Physically, it looks after reproduction due to its close proximity with testis and ovaries. It gives energy in one’s activity, the willpower to keep pursuing.
Lotus- 6 petals symbolizing six obstacles in the path of spiritual development namely laziness, anger, greed, jealousy, cruelty, hatred.
Deity- Brahma
Symbol- Half Moon signifying tides and feelings.
Related Gland- Suprarenal Gland.
Manipura-
After the transition from unconscious to subconscious, we get an exposure to suprement consciousness in Manipura. Mani means pearl and Pura means place. It is positioned at the lower abdomen below the navel. In our body, it is in Solar Plexus.It is also referred as Navel Chakra.It is a center for clarity, wisdom and self-confidence.The selfless love and well being of humanity arise in the heart.
Colour- Yellow representing self-confidence
Mantra-Ram
Qualities- Other than the qualities we have discussed above,high metabolic rate and digestion leading to better nourishment of the body.
Lotus-Ten Petals.
Deity- Vishnu.
Symbol- Inverted Triangle signifying awakening and unfolding the truth.

Anahata-
Anahata means infinite sound. It is a center of sublime feelings and experiences.It is located at the center of the chest and very close of heart and sometimes referred as Heart Chakra.Naturally, it is a center of emotion and pure love for the divine.Compassion and forgiveness are natural occurrence.
Colour- Green
Mantra-Yam
Qualities- compassion, unconditional love, tenderness and profound stability. It gives rise to great devotion. Physically it governs circulation of blood to keep cells vibrant. It gives rise to power of word and wish fulfillment and devotional Samadhi for the love of God.
Lotus- 12 petals.
Deity- Shiva.
Symbol- New moon signifying a path to perfection and Two Triangles signifying equality.

Vishuddha-
Vishuddha means pure.It is known as the throat chakra due to its close proximity to the larynx. It is a center of spiritual purification and balancing. Breath flowing through it, gets purified. We gain access to different levels of consciousness. A trait of self-enquiry emerges to explore the unknown.
Colour- Blue-violet.

Qualities- Detoxification, purification, manifestation, enquiring, creativity.

Ajna-
Ajna means command. You gain a certain control over your life process here. It is a bridge to supreme consciousness.It is located at the point of transition from spine to brain, in the forehead in between the eyebrows.It is called the Third Eye. It leads to supreme wisdom, you can clear distinguish true from untruth, life from death. A clear understand of self dawns forth. It is the meeting point among Ida,Pingala and Sushmna nerve for breathing.
